Rev Professor Sir Lloyd GeeringRev Professor Sir Lloyd Geering, ONZ, GNZM, CBE is Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.  He is also a Fellow of Westar Institute in the USA.  In 1988 he was honoured as a Companion of the British Empire; in 2001 he was honoured as Principal Companion of the NZ Order of Merit, and appointed to the Order of New Zealand in 2006.

Can one reconstruct a profile of the Jesus of history?  Is it possible to find in the authentic ‘Jesus voice’ materials, together with other information about first-century Palestine and the wider Roman world, evidence sufficient to enable one to sketch a profile that would credibly resemble the Jesus of history?

Rev Professor Sir Lloyd Geering, ONZ, GNZM, CBE is Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.  He is also a Fellow of Westar Institute in the USA.  In 1988 he was honoured as a Companion of the British Empire; in 2001 he was honoured as Principal Companion of the NZ Order of Merit, and appointed to the Order of New Zealand in 2006.

Sir Lloyd was tried for heresy by the New Zealand Presbyterian Church in the 1960s.  He regularly lectures at St Andrew’s Trust for the Study of Religion and Society, and is a prolific author with his latest book, Coming back to earth, published in 2009 by Polebridge Press.
